Zero Waste Scotland appointed Enscape Consulting to carry out research to develop a robust evidence base that informs the next steps for the development of product stewardship plans for mattresses.  These consider the potential for extending the lifespan of products and improve reprocessing and disposal practices of mattresses, all of which are essential for advancing a circular economy and achieving net zero targets.

This work entailed engaging with organisations working in the following sectors:

• Mattress manufacturers and retailers,
• Mattress reuse organisations.
• Recycling organisations.
• Local authorities providing collection infrastructure for end-of-life mattresses.
