Trials of Near Infra-red (NIR) Systems to Sort Mixed, Non-inert C&D & Commercial Wastes

Enscape Consulting organised the delivery and operation of trial/pilot equipment to demonstrate how wood, plastics, paper/card and inert materials could be separated to produce quality outputs – from a mixed waste stream which had been going to landfill.

The research and trial, for the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), involved first evaluating technologies across Europe. This was followed by site visits and research studies where we met with organisations considered to be at the leading edge of waste sorting and policy development.

We subsequently organised and delivered trials of Near-Infra-Red (NIR) plant which was hauled to a waste management contractor’s site. This was then operated by Enscape to demonstrate its potential for sorting mixed commercial and construction/demolition waste streams into recyclable fractions.
